Why do African immigrants do better in the US than African Americans? I'm trying to find sources for income/educational attainment of immigrants *when they come over*, but am only finding sources of *what they have today*.

It’s a combination of two factors imo:
1. Those that are able to immigrate are usually educated, well off & usually have in-demand skills.
2. As a foreigner you have to work hard if you want to stay in America & not be forced to go back. Most want to stay. I would if I could.

So in summary black african immigrants to america do better on average than black americans but also better on average than most white americans, most people in their own african country of origin. generally the comparison of black group vs black group ignores other factors✌🏼

No, they don't do better than white people, on average. They do slightly worse than white people, but significantly better than African Americans.
I'm also open to selection bias but I'm trying to find a source that measures the income and education levels of those coming over.
