Why do African immigrants do better in the US than African Americans? I'm trying to find sources for income/educational attainment of immigrants *when they come over*, but am only finding sources of *what they have today*.

It’s a combination of two factors imo: 1. Those that are able to immigrate are usually educated, well off & usually have in-demand skills. 2. As a foreigner you have to work hard if you want to stay in America & not be forced to go back. Most want to stay. I would if I could.

My knowledge is limited to south africa. My brother lives in San Diego. you can start by looking at the brain drain but most importantly look at what visas are available to african immigrants. All paths to permanently live & work in the USA require above average skills/a degree

The two biggest sections of the graph are joining family and refugees. A brief google says this is easier to do if you have a family member who already got citizenship.
