Marriage is sometimes awful! I sometimes think people who are elevating marriage have never known a really terrible person who used "marriage is good, divorce bad" cultural messaging to trap someone into a hellscape of a marriage. Marriage is not sacred! If it's bad, leave!!

Do not try to push through at all costs. Some costs are too great. Don't expect to change your spouse. Stand up for yourself. Divorce is actually an out that you can take if your partner is genuinely awful, or if you want a better life.

Yeah I agree it can be awesome, I was just seeing a lot of stuff on my feed treating marriage as the end-all and divorce as a failure and like, no, sometimes divorce is exactly the right option. But marriage in general can be wonderful!

No reasonable pro marriage person is saying "push through at all costs". But that people divorce for bad reasons, and changeable inconveniences. And that couples would be more willing to work on those issues if they felt compelled to stay married.

of course it's reasonable to quit in many cases, but you don't just promise to stay with someone for the rest of your life and then just quit when you don't feel much like it anymore

You don't get it, you still think in terms of exceptions and are still a force for opposite world. Marriage might not be good for some individuals, but it is good for most and it is good for society. It should not be torn down or weakened. This way most flourish, fewest suffer.
