I've almost never bought promotion; I've bought maaaaybe one promo a month since I started, on average? And they were mostly not worth it for me, with a few exceptions. The vast, vast majority of my subs come from direct advertising off-site.

For me, it's reddit. When I'm on top of my game (not september, i've been SO busy with other stuff irl) I usually get around 40-60 subs per day from reddit.
