can i just say one of the worst things ever is when people compare their opponents to crying babies. Not only is it insulting, but it also implies these people have zero compassion for babies, that they view them as unreasonable with pains that don't matter

no, or at least i try not to. I regularly mention how the base concerns are at least sympathetic, or ones I often agree with - but the thing i hate is the expulsion/religiouslike attitude they go about handling those concerns. They're closer to traumatized than crying babies.

I mean half of them take no issue with puncturing a baby's brain with scissors, so it's not surprising.

I think compassion is the right word. We may know how uneventful their immediate suffering is, but it always pains me to see my 9 month old daughter cry out in total fear when she sees her mother dissapear down a doorway. Her suffering is small to us but very real to her.

It's not unreasonable to love babies and have contempt for adults who act like babies simultaneously.

Babies are not really capable of intellectual dishonesty; they feel what they feel. Troublesome behavior generally comes from people faking/exaggerating emotions, not from actually having them. In that sense I agree with this.
