I think compassion is the right word. We may know how uneventful their immediate suffering is, but it always pains me to see my 9 month old daughter cry out in total fear when she sees her mother dissapear down a doorway. Her suffering is small to us but very real to her.

no, or at least i try not to. I regularly mention how the base concerns are at least sympathetic, or ones I often agree with - but the thing i hate is the expulsion/religiouslike attitude they go about handling those concerns. They're closer to traumatized than crying babies.

Sometimes babies just cry because they're bored or they're mad that you took something dangerous away from them they wanted to play with. Sometimes they throw tantrums over bedtime or having their diaper changed. They don't understand the world yet and so they often cry about it.
