I assumed that systemic oppression had caused poverty which led to increased crime rates in black US populations.
But
@RCAFDM
wrote a fantastic piece I'm just now seeing in which they find this is not the case; it seems to be fatherlessness. 1/

Black people are more religious https://pewforum.org/religious-landscape-study/racial-and-ethnic-composition/ … and more socially conservative https://pewforum.org/fact-sheet/changing-attitudes-on-gay-marriage/ … which I would have guessed predicts greater monogamy and 'nuclear family', but seems not to be the case. How long has this been going on? 4/

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African-American_family_structure#Theories … This has some theories: *African culture emphasizes extended networks, not fatherhood *Something something welfare? *Incarceration? But why didn't this create fatherlessness/cheating/broken families for white people in similar situations?

I wouldn't say all black people cheat. I will say there is a different sense of commitment between generations. Boomers were very committed and monogamous. A number of Xers started the "play the field" thing (I am not one of them), and Gen Z seems largely non-committal.

I personally have always been a one woman man and prefer to go for a long term commitment. Many now don't see that as the case. I think this is what leads to fatherless essay. Crime comes in from having a high number of latchkey kids unsupervised at home while mom works.

It's not cheating it's just polyamory

Maybe because they can. Suppose there is an external force (systemic bias in law enforcement?) that causes some people to leave the marriage market, and this force affects one gender much more than the other. The resulting gender imbalance can really mess up the marriage market.

@thelastpsych explains this theory better on his blog: https://web.archive.org/web/20200503191648/https://thelastpsychiatrist.com/2010/04/why_is_it_so_hard_to_find_a_go.html … The blog post in turn discusses this article:https://web.archive.org/web/20180728030322/https://www.economist.com/united-states/2010/04/08/sex-and-the-single-black-woman …

Mass incarceration is a reason that comes to mind. Should check numbers. Also, please read the article more carefully: it claims crime prediction, i.e. correlation. It does not claim causation.

On the whole, for somebody coming from a hard-science point of view, all these ‘studies’ that establish correlation feel very weak. This is something pointed in this excellent meta-analysis: most of them lack a theoretical framework.https://web.archive.org/web/20200912071622/https://fantasticanachronism.com/2020/09/11/whats-wrong-with-social-science-and-how-to-fix-it/#Lack-of-Theory …

A carefully cultivated dependence on State welfare programmed and the cultural devaluation of the family unit over decades. Sowell and Water Williams have written about this in length and demonstrated the exact same causes, but the 'beautiful people' refuse to acknowledge them.
