Growing up, I read lots of books around historic lifestyles and was shocked by the danger, disease, and lack of eg plumbing or electricity. I felt super thankful for everything I had in comparison, I lived in amazing privilege. I wonder if this sense informed my political views-

When you don't have a body you can sell danger-free over the internet, life can get considerably tougher, for much longer periods of time, with no apparent escape route. The little window into the world you're privy to seems to exclude a LOT of reality.

I mean you do know I was an IRL escort and was assaulted in that job, and I have worked terrible entry level jobs with no apparent end in sight for years? Getting to my very fortunate position is a new thing.

I feel like the more I learned about history the more my views began to skew toward libertarian ideals. Nothing really wakes you up to the good capitalism can do like learning about the conditions people lived in just 200 years ago.

On the whole, capitalism has delivered. Super cheap TVs, smartphones, clothes and food. It doesn't mean much though if you can't afford housing, healthcare and education. The last 3 have been increasing way above inflation for a while now. I can see why others aren't as cheery.
