I was a furniture maker and wood carver for many years. I have no problems with photorealistic mental images. The only problem was putting that to paper so others could see it. My drawing ability is pretty basic.

My favorite way to explain aphantasia is a police sketch. If you’re asked to describe a stranger or a close friend, how photo-realistic is your description. For strangers I can’t do more than “white guy”. For friends, I’d have to separately note and remember specific features.
