when i was a consultant i freaked out about prepaying on time and with enough money i have been told by some much more experienced freelancers that the fee for not-prepaying is not large compared to investing the amount ymmv

this site says 0.5% per month of unpaid amount. if your tax burden for a quarter is $10k, that's $50/mo. so not paying the final quarter's estimated puts you at ~$150 penalty. less if your burden is less http://www.a-ccpa.com/content/taxguide/text/c60s20d290.php …

I've never paid quarterly taxes before, I pay it all in one lump sum at the end of the tax year, which has a different sort of sting.

Hmm. I'm not sure if it's worth it or not. It's not like it's HARD to pay quarterly. Just annoying.
