The trans trend (no disrespect, just empirically it’s trending) is probably due, in part, to the declining monagamy norm. As the sexually liberal mating economy creates winner-take-all dynamics, more biological males hate being male. Add female empowerment norms, & voila.

I think another part of it (no matter how small or large) is the idea of sexual novelty being more and more in need. autogynephilia then becomes a corner some go to/and or explore since trans is a “thing”

Historical polygynist societies involve a minority of men having several women, a larger number (possibly a majority) having one, and a large minority having none. A future society with polyamorist norms would likely be similar but with a small polyandrist niche.

Plenty of biological reasons for polygyny being inevitable. Women are far more willing to “share” (can’t be meaningfully cuckolded), and far choosier with mates

There's also an evacuation of the real and an escape into fetish. People are having less sex, in the body. But our minds are more fixated on it than ever. And online you can find whatever weird thing turns you on, without constraint of realism

This doesn't explain the egalitarian nature of marriage in the Balkans, for instance, compared to the US.

It's actually more equal when female sexuality is requlated: * Normative arranged marriages * Orthodox religions * Babushka's influence in downregulating female sexual expression in public (shame culture)
