I like a lot of 'eye contact hippie' category things. Feeling into energy together, crying together, crazy weird spiritual experiences, bizarre communication styles - I'm into it. But I feel very turned off by the vast majority of classes/communities around this stuff. 1/

The biggest exception to this is circling. Circling has a container and has people coming with intent to do a weird thing, but it seems okay - maybe cause I've done almost exclusively surrendered leadership which is basically full anarchy, and that feels sufficiently organic?

What puts me off most "alt" things: 1) the lack of a cohesive, immersive aesthetic (usually it's either garish or hippie) 2) lack of matter-of-factness. Forcing/administering it creates a feeling of performance and cringe 3) the people involved are often immature/unstable ime

i feel this. still creeps me out, but i very recently was able to stop looking down on and find a respect for people earnestly putting effort into learning/doing things. still, a wide margin for exploitation in terms of marketing some form of ‘spirituality’, i’d say.
