im gonna have a breakdown - i finally stopped procrastinating to try to make a payment to the irs, but i can't - the website keeps saying my identity can't be verified. i tried to call but there's no option for my problem and i can't get to a real person. idk what to do

i tried this - about a month ago i paid someone a lot of money and they said they'd get back to me with a proposal and to start doing stuff in about 2-3 weeks but it's been over a month they keep saying 'im sorry i've been busy'

See if you can talk to an operator about the problem and have them redirect you to someone who can help

Just to be clear, are you having trouble filing or making the actual payment? Filing is mostly optional, and making the payment can be done by check (send a cashiers check if you want paper trail, etc)

I had the same problem. My CPA says that everyone is having this problem. I had to mail in a literal check to pay my 2019 taxes. A piece of real tree. Imagine.

In general, I prefer doing things myself, but one of the best values for the dollar I spend is hiring a tax service for my IRS needs. Not joking in the least. The rules and bylaws are byzantine, and they either know the answers, or know who to call. No shame in getting help.
