Social shaming around covid seems... complicated to me. On one hand yes spreading the disease is really bad, but on the other hand we don't have the capacity to judge other people's mental health or how much them "partying" might be saving them from great suffering or suicide.

like, obviously there are assholes who don't care, the conspiracy theorists who think it's exaggerated, etc. - but still I mean honestly asking humans to stay so isolated for 7 months without a definite end date is a really fucking intense thing to do.

You might be more privileged than them. You might have regular access to a quarantined bubble community. You might be living in a slightly less locked down city. You might just naturally be better at isolation, or more mentally healthy in general. You might have more support.

And again, obviously lives are at stake here. Obviously the small chance of killing someone else isn't worth you not falling apart. But like... at some point you gotta admit that it's really hard, the consequences aren't obvious, and irresponsible choices don't make people evil.

7 mths is nucking futs! I’m so glad I decided to leave San Francisco and go to New Zealand. We had 33 days of serious “stay within a couple of miles of home, everything is closed” lockdown, then 16 days of “stay in your town, take-out is open”. From May 14 we’ve been almost norm.
