Their property would be a substantial portion of the world's real wealth though, in terms of food, industry, extraction, not just some numbers on servers. This would be devastating.

The world would be less wealthy and also since today's world has much more of the 0.1% comprised of the cognitive elite, it would also be dumber and possibly missing out on much future innovation/R&D.

I think its safe to say the .01% aren't the "cognitive elite", but they do hoard a great deal of resources used to invest in smarter people's work. I agree the floor would drop out on R&D for a while, but the brainpower needed for growth and innovation remains
