the word 'racist' is used so often for so many non-racist things it's really losing all meaning for me. I bet in a few years they'll have squeezed all the power out of it and will move onto a different term. What's the plausible runner up?

“After saying something racist, being rightfully called out, and not just doubling but tripling down on it, I have decided that the word has no meaning”

I wasn't rightfully called out. They were wrong. I'm not going to be like 'no they were right' just because there's a lot of them. Crowds chanting a thing doesn't make it any more true.

But on the other hand, have you ever been the victim of gaslighting and abuse - where you do something that's fine and the abuser convinces you it's bad? There's a spectrum between the situation you describe and the situation I describe. In this case I think it's closer to mine.

I have been the victim of gaslighting and abuse, btw, where I thought I was wrong because the other person was upset at something I did, they explained how it was offensive to them, I was like ok - you're right. And later I realized the whole dynamic was *fucked* up

You said something very racist. And you had nothing to even back it up by your own admission. You aren’t being abused right now; I’m sorry that happened in the past, but that is not what’s at play. You’re being harmful. Jfc

It was NOT racist. Why the hell are you saying it's racist? I did have stuff to back it up. I never had the concept of black people being more likely to catcall before I started walking through major cities and it slowly dawning on me that it made up like 80% of who catcalled.

also isn't racism when you discriminate or treat people worse because of their race? I'm not advocating to treat anybody worse. I personally actively like getting catcalled, so the experience is positive for me.

There are so many fundamental misunderstandings in this tweet it’s hard to know where to start. It’s not really worth my time frankly to walk you through how insulting you’re being to multiple groups of people but no, that is not the entire definition of racism which is a system.

People who get insulted by good faith efforts maybe should reevaluate their standards for insults
