Who are « they » though ? The essay describes / interprets some alleged behavior, but doesn’t assess how widespread it really is nor offer any way to recognize people who would refuse debate for these specific reasons. I’m having a hard time buying the whole us vs them narrative.

I mean, the easiest way to interpret people being narrow-minded and unwilling to question themselves is basic human nature, whatever their beliefs are. I wonder how many people actually believe that all debate on social issues is futile vs how many are just ill-equipped for it...

That exhaustion you are feeling could paradoxically inspire new sympathy. After all the fifth reason mentioned in the linked article is "they are too tired". Maybe there is a better way to communicate that isn't so exhausting.

For example I find the way you bite philosophical bullets and don't bother disclaiming and clarifying things in your polls to be refreshing, and the way regular people do (or more often avoid) thought experiments to be exhausting.
