"have you ever met a self-described 'empath' who wasn't actually a narcissist" (idk why i have a sense that this is common, but i've only met 1 self-described empath, found out she described herself that way *after* interacting with her in person; seemed plausible)

She's highly neurotic, highly empathetic (according to JP's Big 5 test). I thought she was performative until I understood her high N. Now I realize she's high amplitude across the board: both empathy & anger.

Not at all. People who brag about their virtues and/or perceptiveness are generally very shallow, un-self aware people. Genuinely empathetic people have too much humility to make sweeping claims like that

My wife says she's an empath. We've spoken about the way we think and we don't recognise each other's thought processes. I didn't realise it was a real thing, I thought it was an x-men super power
