While I agree in a bubble Reply guys who are just trying to force someone to 'debate me' then get haughty when people say no are common enough to be their own genre. Debate is important, but it's often rhetorical rather than reasoned and refusing to debate known bad actors...

That is certainly the motte. The bailey is more like, “People should not debate the finer points of trans identity.” Or “Questioning whether trans women are ‘real’ women is tantamount to questioning trans womens’ rights to exist.”

It's not a matter of simply asking questions, but rather finding out the right questions to ask and whether to entertain them. In fact, "fundamentalists" were questioning evolution since it was mainstream in attempts to undermine it and push religion. /1

There is no point in debating/questioning things to infinity when it's been settled unless you have evidence to back up those claims. You spread bad ideas this way because not every position you can take on an issue is credible. /2
