to be fair i think they popped out a kid with a super weird brain that was gonna 'go off the rails' no matter what they did and it's just a hilarious unlucky coincidence that they happened to be hyper fundamentalist christians

You can't say about a lot of people that they've a real personality. So if one has a real personality, can really think for oneself, then of course this person is hard to handle. ;)

I so identify w/this statement (tho mine were only fundies, not hyper-fundies, at least from my perspective, and they were very well-meaning and loving)
