I like my job, the pay is really good. But in exchange for this high pay is the constant low-level pressure of being the only person responsible for all of the decisions, for having no strategic help, for really high variance in income, for it being generally high risk.

It's definitely stressful. Sometimes I fantasize about taking a lower pay that's at least consistent and guaranteed, and how I could plan my life better and not have to deal with the emotional peaks and panicks that I do now. Overall I still do prefer the high pay + stress, tho.

How does it feel to think about doing this as long as you prefer it, but knowing you could always switch when you need to? Or is it worse to know that the switch button is there? (If it in fact is).

Like.... switch to a lower but consistent pay? I think my fear is that the only lower but consistent pay I could take would be for a job I hate, for not enough pay to make it worth it. I'm very bad at working regular jobs for other people. I'm not considering it as an option.
