I like my job, the pay is really good. But in exchange for this high pay is the constant low-level pressure of being the only person responsible for all of the decisions, for having no strategic help, for really high variance in income, for it being generally high risk.

It's definitely stressful. Sometimes I fantasize about taking a lower pay that's at least consistent and guaranteed, and how I could plan my life better and not have to deal with the emotional peaks and panicks that I do now. Overall I still do prefer the high pay + stress, tho.

Your age matters. Taking up too much responsibility too soon is a bad idea. It's difficult to move up the ranks because it's competitive but at the same time, the system prefers experienced people for a reason.

As a teacher I get High stress and low pay. The genuine sense on meaning is nice, though.

How does it feel to think about doing this as long as you prefer it, but knowing you could always switch when you need to? Or is it worse to know that the switch button is there? (If it in fact is).

Like.... switch to a lower but consistent pay? I think my fear is that the only lower but consistent pay I could take would be for a job I hate, for not enough pay to make it worth it. I'm very bad at working regular jobs for other people. I'm not considering it as an option.

I work a dead end low pay job in a rural cheap living area and have a huge garden that I grow every year and give away all my produce to people I know. I mean more money, nicer house would all be nice but I'm pretty happy where I'm at.

This might be ignorance but I wish I could have your job. Most of my stress and mental health and physical health is strained on how much money I make. Which isn't a lot. I know this is all perception especially after a day of high stress and pain, but having your job seems 🙌

I personally understand why people like that regular 9-5 job and not any risk of "just doing my job." Its comfortable

Are you in management? I strongly relate to this over the past couple years. I got my answer, hope you do too. You are asking yourself the best question, for certain.

Taxes are a nightmare. I don’t agree in principle with the whole taxation is theft line, but I understand the sentiment.
