You can live for very little if you're careful. Of course, if you add on additional costs, the wage you need to survive increases. I always viewed "minimum wage" as the absolute minimum you need to survive. Of course it's not gonna be enough if you have more costs!

why do you think so ?

Why should a restruarant be forced to pay somebody $15/hr to bus tables, wash dishes, & clean restrooms when a HS kid looking for his first job will gladly do it for $10? At $15/hr they might as well hire another adult who can be a bartender as well. That HS kid is now screwed.

I also think "there shouldn't be any" but I also think there shouldn't be systemic suppression of highly fluid economic cooperation. I imagine you, too, think this but most envision eliminating wage controls in a context like our current one.

Does this work well anywhere? The USA comes closer than other developed economies, and has much higher rates of poverty, including working poverty. This isn't necessary. 1/

I also wonder about the economics, when unemployment rates are macroeconomic targets. Very low unemployment means am overheating economy, so measures are taken which bring it up. So it's never true that everyone can get a job who wants and deserves one. 2/
