I think one of my recurring questions re: the BLM stuff, is that support for what's going on is obviously coming from some deep lack of interest in truth or rigorous analysis. Is this a new thing, or has it always been there and is now just showing up?

What substantiates the claim that support for BLM (or adjacent events) is "coming from some deep lack of interest in truth or rigorous analysis"? A concrete example would be helpful -- without committing to agree or disagree, that claim is not obvious to me.

Would describe self as BLM-sympathetic, but not sympathetic to calls to "shut down academia" etc. Haven't polled my friends, but could, and suspect many would agree. Is the claim that shutdownstem (&etc) is widely supported among pro-BLM? My instinct is this is peripheral.

Yeah I don't think it's central, but it's an example of something that's coming out of the movement, and I bet you if you went to the protestors and showed them that page, at least 40% would express support for it.

Would encourage disentanging or clarifying the (narrow) claim that some BLM-adjacent initiatives appear anti-intellectual/anti-rigor from (broader) claim that support from BLM comes from a place of anti-rigor -- if I am understanding your position accurately

I do think the majority of BLM claims come from anti rigor.

Probably more, even if they don't really agree with that.

Mmm, I've been to four or five protests myself and I have a different view of the median protestor. While there is a small and real anti science/anti academic segment of activists, don't credit them more power than they have.
