The attempt to redefine racism away from the dictionary definition into the "systemic privilege" one is, imo, an attempt to remove the intensely horrible associations with actual racism, to minimize its harms, and to provide a socially acceptable avenue for its practice.

Agreed. Second point, yes but also no. It's not the color of the skin so much as the evolutionary adaptations of people born with that skin. People of so many "races", religions, tribes, etc. have been slaves, but dark skinned slaves might be particularly valuable.

Like, I'm willing to bet if we had a history showdown, we would find that black "slaves" (if we must, since even the concept is so much more nuanced than the emotional reaction to that word allows) were often more valuable than other classifications of indentured servants.
