The attempt to redefine racism away from the dictionary definition into the "systemic privilege" one is, imo, an attempt to remove the intensely horrible associations with actual racism, to minimize its harms, and to provide a socially acceptable avenue for its practice.

Ultimately I agree that the redefinition is unnecessary, and ironically, very Foucauldian. The push for this is abusing power dynamics to advance an agenda. We have a term, systemic racism, that clearly explains the issue.

But regardless of the intentions, it’s important to highlight that systemic racism does significantly more harm than individual racism without institutional power structures behind it. That’s the implicit reasoning behind this effort and is what’s worth focusing on imo.

I agree: It’s all about power and using linguistic framing to disguise it as good and justifiable.

You nailed my reference to Foucauldian power dynamics. It’s fascinating to see his influence become so dominant that it cannibalizes itself.

I also observe people being shitheads about it, but I think your view is a little murky atm. Good on you for trying to find out on Twitter, I appreciate you for being openly curious.
