Rules for Enduring Internet Hate 1. Be invulnerable. Have a job you can't get fired from, a house you're not afraid to move out of, friends who know your worst. 2. Do not show fear, ever. Do not hide, be defensive, show signs of self protection or retreat. Extremely important.

        3. Do not be reactive. If someone has mal intent, do not respond. Sometimes don't even block, when blocking can be interpreted as acknowledgement. 4. Don't worry about people without a platform 5. If everyone starts to believe a lie, present the truth calmly, loudly, once.

Is being invulnerable to attacks compatible with being otherwise open and vulnerable about one’s flaws and insecurities instead of creating a tough facade? a twitter n00b wondering

yeah, maybe even necessary. It's way more easy to be vulnerable about your flaws if you feel secure in having a house/income/community.

Aye aye on #2. There's, alas, little room for conversational give-and-take these days, because any concession is an invitation for attack. Some advice I gave someone the other day:pic.twitter.com/NHxlfiweWx

Unfortunate that such an extreme analogie, are in fact, of the best comparison for the current world today. Rationality almost deems a person as an extremist to whatever idea or perspective.

Part of being invulnerable is figuring out who it matters what they think about you. It shouldn't matter what strangers (internet or real life) think of you. They like you? Great. They don't? So what? Either way it really doesn't matter. It's the people that count that matter.
