I was with him til point 2 - the union busting point police departments need to be internally democratized and demilitarized - unionization is a big part of that if anything, police departments need stronger unions, with the right to strike and less ties with management

What? Police unions are by far the biggest obstacle to reform and particularly accountability in policing. In what world do we need more of that?

There are some good proposals there, some I think sound good on paper and are unworkable, others will need some clarifications and protections added before they can be implemented.

Point 4 would disqualify almost all women from police work - what else can you do if an unarmed 250lb man starts punching you? Maybe this is a worthwhile tradeoff for lower police shootings...

I understand that female officers are just as effective as their make counterparts with far fewer incidents of deadly force.

I favor the reforms listed, and they would be a lot better than nothing, but they only obliquely address the fact that in many places, police are seen *and see themselves* as an occupying force, not a source of assistance. Until that is address directly, the problems will remain

As an opening gambit I think it’s fine to demand everything, even the ridiculous, if for no other reason than to have room to negotiate.

Apparently not because he doesn't realize that things like civilian oversight already exist and are ignored, quotas are outlawed in several states and are ignored, and that private police barely exist in the US and chiefly are not the cause of the current problems.
-
Literally every point he makes for police reform (not the prison or judicial reform) would happen if you abolish the police.

"high speed pursuit" isn't at *all* faultless - people are much less likely to drive dangerously if they're not being pursued at high speeds. and in general if a cop isn't willing to risk their life for their job they shouldn't have it, IMO.
