The parallels between my cultish, evangelical homeschooled upbringing and the discourse I'm seeing going on in public mediums right now is chillingly similar. I am freaked the absolute fuck out. We're descending right back into the judgmental, intolerant shithole we came from. 4/

I want to believe that but I don't think it's true. I really, really don't. I am on the internet a lot and I deliberately insert myself into a wide variety of far corners and this is alarming me more than other extremism I've seen.

Yeah I question myself sometimes too. Especially when I know some irl people using the same arguments. Sometimes I think they’re just parroting and don’t necessarily know the intricacies of the world view they’re parroting. I hope the madness ends.

It had never previously occurred to me as part of the reason I also disapprove of how things are going, but I grew up in a small Southern Baptist dominated town and in a conservative religious family myself (not SB) & now I'm thinking this is part of what's got me on edge as well
