I hate the protestor discourse. I don't trust them at all. They are religious, just under a different name.
That being said, the pushing back of the police in Seattle is so wonderful it gives me goosebumps. I love the idea of more community control over their own safety.

Lol just saw this list of demands posted. I love fucking over police but this is one of the most socially and economically illiterate things I've read. This is what you get when your movement doesn't really care about good epistemics: reddit.com/r/CapHillAuton

We all love the idea of it. It's the reality of it that scares us. Real life dilemma: my office is in thwt zone. Should I go? If I'm asked if I agree with abolishing the police, am I free to disagree? If I'm asked for a contribution to the cause, am I safe to refuse?

Yeah historically the period after revolutions is not awesome and I am not very hopeful this will work out in a way that respects the rights of everyone

Surely this is about different CHANNELS of control. The usual citizens voting for mayors who appoint police etc. is in fact a form of control.

This is true, but there seems to be a loss at how to enact deeper change? I don't know if it's accurate but the perception of being unable to change the deeper system through voting seems really important.

The United States has a long tradition of communities taking charge of their own safety. This is a very conservative return to the idea of personal accountability in this area.

Burning Man is a great experience too, but it only lasts a week, everyone is self responsible, and they all bring their own supplies.
They call them Temporary Autonomous Zones for a reason. (Never mind that HakimBey aka PLW is a pedophile)

Sounds like this isn't wonderful nor do you like their ideas.

Yeah as I've tweeted about before, policy doesn't exist in a vacuum - different laws would work well for different cultures. I think community policing would end up awesome in some communities and not others.
