There's something about what's going on in the world that triggers something more visceral in me. I feel more afraid, angry, tribal. I am absolutely terrified of how I see everyone responding. It's not really what they say as much as the frames they use to say it.

I have such a strong senation that I need to fight this really hard, like everything in me is screaming NO at the world, but I don't know what to do except maybe move. Because the fear in me makes inelegant tweets, so I mostly try to not explode with the words I want to.

Geoffrey is right. The Bay is not a healthy place anymore. As an expat (for whom it was a rip-out-the-heart event to leave) I can say with confidence, there ARE places that are as good as SF used to be. Not the same, but still amazing. And way, WAY better than it is now.

NM, you're not following me, can't DM you, so I'll speak in general terms. 1st criteria: Any place the classes mix at a high rate. Vertical socialization REALLY makes a difference. 2nd criteria: Strong sense of community. 3rd criteria: A general looseness and openness 1/?
