dude it must be surreal af to be Derek Chauvin right now. Can you imagine being the trigger for the united states to lose its collective shit? I wonder if he feels awful.

re: comments about remorse/psychopathy. I think thinking that assholes don't feel remorse is really dangerous - because they *do* feel remorse, and if you think remorse means they're not an asshole then this is a dangerous trap. This is what keeps people in abusive relationships.

as in; people are really good at convincing themselves to feel the correct emotions (you and me included!) for the situation. If people are really mad at you you will likely feel guilty and bad, but this does *not* mean you are less dangerous or will actually change.

so when I'm asking if Derek feels bad, I'm not asking if he's an asshole or not. I'm just curious about what the weight of an entire nation hating you feels like. I suspect it probably triggers intense remorse. I also don't think this should impact how we treat him.

Feeling bad for being out of sorts socially isn't necessarily remorse. When I feel remorse, the majority of the time there is nobody making me feel guilty. It is a realization that even though there were no consequences, I did not act appropriately and feeling bad about that.
