I in no means want to defend this guy - what he did was obviously despicable and he did it probably because of a power trip.
I also think feeling remorse doesn't make you a good person; often people feel it only as long as it's functional, without it changing anything.
He's been involved with other shootings of minorities, and some reports coming out that he may have known Floyd from a security job they were both on.

One odd thing is that people are assuming Chauvin knew or suspected that Floyd would die.
It could easily be that he did this many times before and nobody died.
And no, I'm not endorsing the technique he used. Just pointing out that intent is really difficult to establish
