That's not what it means. "Simp" denotes insincere or vacuous flattery with an ulterior motive (i.e., a boner). A common phenomenon that now has its own handy term.

I usually see it used correctly. But of course, "I'm just being nice" is a simp's first line of defense.

I've mostly seen 'simp' used as a slur to discourage nonharmful behaviors. Really, the majority of uses I've seen are to insult men who pay sex workers.

In fairness, you might hear this more because of your line of work. But I feel like sex industry patrons don't really qualify as simps - they're getting what they pay for, whereas the simp's efforts generally go unrewarded.
