Yes, but in the opposite direction of the norm. If someone with under 100 followers leaves a good reply to one of my replies and doesn't look awful, I'll follow them. Posters rise up!

over 500 || no except i'm not 100% sure that's true, sometimes if someone has like <100 followers and seems cool it feels like.... a great find at a thrift store or something (curious about the shift from over 800 to over 500?)

If someone is deciding who to follow based on how many people are already following them, then they've forgotten the purpose of Twitter, social media, and general interaction aentirely.
-
Read the wording more carefully. It does not imply that the more followers someone has, the likelier you'll follow them.

yeah, I'm on twitter for that coffeehouse feel, following someone who has 100k followers feels like watching a speaker in a sold out stadium if I wanted one sided social relationships I can read blogs
-
also bigger accounts usually feel like they're worse quality, but that might be confirmation bias

Affects me in what I assume is the opposite way than I infer from the Q: I stay away from people with Many followers. Tweets become dull/generic once people act “publicly”.

Makes no difference to me at all. If I'm interested in what someone has to say I will follow them.
