I have a lot of difficulty recognizing faces, to the extent that it's occasionally inhibited my life. I also just assume other people don't recognize faces either, and won't recognize me, and I'm always shocked when someone recognizes me online from something they saw years ago.

like I understand that other people have better facial memory than I do, but I haven't really realized it on a gut level, and I have an ongoing sense of feeling as though I'm faceless, like my face doesn't exist in anyone else's minds.

I don't know? I'm good at recognizing faces for people who are regularly near me, but bad if it's irregular or new. For example I met a homeless guy who invited me to go spray painting. I ran back home to get stuff and when I returned to the street I didn't know which one was him

or i met up with this dude once, we had a long dinner and talked for a while, and then three weeks later we met up again - but i was meeting him in a public place and i didn't recognize him. he walked up to me and i thought he was just asking me to move.

Wow that’s so interesting! I’m sure that must be very frustrating for you. It’s been known to cause great social anxiety in people. I think there are other cognitive cues like focusing on specific traits like ears or hair or height and voice rather than the whole face.

I’m not sure but I believe there is facial recognition ability with relatives and people seen consistently in people who have Prosopagnosia. It might be attributed to knowing their mannerisms and voice etc.
