I have a lot of difficulty recognizing faces, to the extent that it's occasionally inhibited my life.
I also just assume other people don't recognize faces either, and won't recognize me, and I'm always shocked when someone recognizes me online from something they saw years ago.

like I understand that other people have better facial memory than I do, but I haven't really realized it on a gut level, and I have an ongoing sense of feeling as though I'm faceless, like my face doesn't exist in anyone else's minds.

My sister has this, she often struggles with recognising ppl others think she should remember. She remembers the individual, just not the face if that makes sense

Same. I recognize people only of they look radically different, I know them in context, or is a persistent acquaintance.

I've experienced this from the other side. I often say hello to people I run into because I instantly recognize them, only to discover that they didn't recognize me. And I can't blame it only on my being unmemorable since it includes people I've spent almost zero time with.

This reminds us that everyone has different abilities. This is why it can be upsetting to be belittled by someone, especially in a work situation, just because your abilities don't match theirs.

so like does this mean ppl get multiple opportunities for you to have a first impression?
Like, if you met someone, and then later again, and they (pretend or actual) didn't recognize you, and you didn't recognize them, do you get a second first impression?

This is why I try to avoid people who change their hair on a regular basis... if I see them outside of normal context, they may as well be an alien.

That’s so weird to me because I recognize faces but can’t remember names (quickly). MFC is interesting. I must have seen 10,000+ models, but often there’s a “new” model who’s been away 5 years and I always (I think!) know it instantly, but the old name takes 30 min to recall.
