There's an academic theory that the connectivity of the arm in the selfie helps to not only engender a sense of authenticity (as others have described) but also a connectedness and a sense of being in a shared space through the arm. I can't find the article atm.

i feel like part of the allure of onlyfans in particular is based on this implicit fantasy of accessibility (based on how people tweet about it, e.g. the tweet about the girl getting mad that his bf had a fav onlyfans girl, and how this felt different from having a fav pornstar)
