As a Christian, I have no idea where the anti-masturbation thing comes from. I don't see any Biblical basis, and I reject Onan's pulling out of Tamar as an indictment against it on the grounds that that makes no sense.
Feels like anti-sexuality pleasure-is-bad nonsense to me.

Usually a lot of anti-masturbation arguments I've heard are around "don't lust" commands, and usually assume you can't masturbate without experiencing lust.

When you're engaged in the activity a group targets like that I actually think it increases the incentive to join the mob. So, particularly when a person is young, it can be really easy to do the "wrong" thing.
