I guess I can kinda see the perverse logic if you put yourself in the shoes of an omniscient being that already knows that someone is going to the hot place for mixing their fibres or whatever. Kinda Minority Report-ish.

This would prolly horrify your parents, but I always thought "Sinners in the Hands of An Angry God" depicted an evil deity a la Book of Job (I thought this as a devout Christian, fwiw; the William Blake idea of New Testament & Old depicting opposing deities made much more sense)
