(as you know) I was raised in a borderline cult environment with professionally evangelist parents, homeschooled, limited access to media, taught 6k y/o earth, explicitly expected to be a housewife who homeschooled her own children in the ways of the Lord. 1/

You may be able to enlighten me on this then. I know the gist of Calvinism, and I don't think it's an unreasonable reading of the Bible, but I don't understand why someone would be a Calvinist. If salvation is unconditional and predetermined, why bother?

Get ready for this mind fuck: if you are predestined to be saved, then you will "naturally want" to do good things and please the Lord. So - you don't have to do anything to be saved, but if you're not trying to be good then you're probably not saved.

I guess I can kinda see the perverse logic if you put yourself in the shoes of an omniscient being that already knows that someone is going to the hot place for mixing their fibres or whatever. Kinda Minority Report-ish.
