I don't really understand the "box" thing. I mean most people don't completely fit gender stereotypes. Why does a new category have to be created?

the degree that people don't fit, & also face consequences for refusing to fit other people's gendered expectations varies a lot, & if someone says "if you think of me as being either a girl or a boy you will be very wrong" I'm inclined to believe them and try and figure out why

& it makes sense people are trying to identify the category that best makes predictions about themselves and captures their ability to pursue their values when discussing gender - how their gender is percieved is often obvious such that you don't need to talk about that directly?
