I deleted my eugenics tweet, not because I don't stand behind it but because I think my phrasing was unclear. So a thread to clarify exactly what I mean:

Fucking around with genes has historically been used for really bad things. This is bad and I do not support it. But also, if I could offer free gene modification to end terrible genetic diseases in fetuses, I would probably do this.

And what do you consider a “terrible” disease? You’re still endorsing eugenics but now you’re too much of coward to say it in full white hood.

I'm trying to get the damn terms right. If you understand that the thing I want to do is get rid of terrible diseases and you want to use the word "eugenics" for that then sure fuck it i'm pro eugenics. The word doesn't matter to me, the definition does.

What do you consider a terrible disease? Bc it sounds like you still meant what you said but want to call it another name. The name doesn’t stop it from being ableist or even potentially racist.

If altering a fetus that would've normally been born with muscular dystrophy is "ableist", then I am proudly ableist. But I would recommend finding another term for it, if you don't want a lot of people to conclude that "ableism" is actually a good thing.
