I deleted my eugenics tweet, not because I don't stand behind it but because I think my phrasing was unclear. So a thread to clarify exactly what I mean:

Fucking around with genes has historically been used for really bad things. This is bad and I do not support it.
But also, if I could offer free gene modification to end terrible genetic diseases in fetuses, I would probably do this.

I used the term 'eugenics' which I understood to be an umbrella term for everything regarding "changing the genetics of human beings" (based on the dictionary/wikipedia), but it seems people associate the word with the use of force and only bad things, which I do not stand by.

wondering if you saw my replies. Thought you might find it interesting/useful.
(sorry for new account, I didn't really want to interact with you on main because I am reliant for social support on parts of twitter that aren't terribly fond of you (unfairly so 😓%/))

Thanks for the support! I'm sorry you have to hide parts of who you are and what you like in order to gain safety and approval from others. :(

Your tweet violated TOS and would have been removed. Lots of autistics and our allies reported you. I hope you become a better person one day.

Twitter polls need the option to revote. Immediately after I clicked, I understood the phrasing and wanted to change my vote.

I thought it was fine, everyone else just gets their undies in a bundle because they can't separate an idea from praxis.

PLEASE consider for a moment that disabled people can and do love our bodyminds. My genetic condition does not need fixing. I do not need fixing. Ableism needs fixing. The social, spatial, political, and economic marginalization of disabled people needs fixing.

had a podcast about this recentently. His guests point was that as the cost of IVF and gene sequencing goes down, this kind of selection against defective disevses will become inevitable. This would however open the door for other riskier practices.

I really enjoy the stats from the polls and the honest and open discourse, long may they continue!
