First: nobody becomes autistic after birth. Some acquired conditions share traits with autism, and thus may be mistaken for autism...but autism is something people are born with, period. Second: Autistics know non-autistics want us to disappear. We don't need to be reminded.

Furthermore: Non-autistics don't get to have an opinion on whether or not autistics should be born. Even autistics don't get to have an opinion on whether OTHER autistics should be born. Wanting autistics to not be born is eugenics. Fuck everyone who supports eugenics.

Finally: I ask you to seriously reflect on why you thought it was okay to post this poll. Allowing autistic people to be born isn't up for debate. All this does, is harm autistics who are now subjected to the results and platform eugenicist views. Just delete it, please.

the reason you're getting so much backlash over this one is that there's too much real world eugenics-related trauma amongst autistics for hypothetical eugenics to be tolerated.

This seems to be a theme with my twitter experience. I ask a *massive* amount of questions (yay autism) and sometimes they touch on people associating those questions with other bad things and then they get mad at me

This isn‘t people „associating“ your poll with „other bad things“. This is people educating you (and others) on what you‘re doing. Debating whether autistic people should be born is eugenics. Some of us are calling that out, and speaking up against it.

i know you're coming into this fresh but this last week i have had a ton of people "educating" me and expecting me to just bend over to how they want me to speak and think in a whole bunch of things (not just autism) and i am so freaking sick of hearing that stupid word.

I'm not harming autistics. This is a tactic I see in a lot of abusive communities - where 'being harmed' is very defensible, so people are incentivized to insist that there is harm even when it's ambiguous or possibly even not there at all.
