Increases but also intimidates me

Like I have no specialized knowledge on whatever subject they studied so what would we even talk about

I've known plenty of PhDs, they are no more likely to be interesting than anyone else. Often if they are talking about their field they can be incredibly dull because they are far too deep into the details.
-
I agree, I've been told most PhDs don't popularize their studies well. I would add that they might also be less receptive to non verbal feedback than the average, which will make things worse
I'm curious: what country are you based/have you lived in?

Depends on the PhD of course but generally yes. We tend to gravitate to those we consider experts, especially when they're in the same field.

Are we really? I mean: as a physicist, I love my colleagues and I can have mildly interesting discussions with most physics PhD, but that's the thing: only "mildly", and overall I will be more interested in talking to people in other fields...

It depends on how old Bob is. If he's around my age, it'll probably be more interesting to talk to him, if the age difference is too big maybe I would find him to be dull
-
Do you that he'd be much older or much younger?
