There's strong correlation between poverty and obesity. I understand "unhealthy, faster food is cheaper", but how encompassing is that explanation? Are there any other cultural factors here?

If you think conscientiousness is enough to lift anybody, or even a significant fraction of people, out of poverty regardless of their circumstances, then… your handle is well chosen. Many poor people are more conscientious than well off people, insulting to suggest otherwise.

Lack of time and funds to join a gym, working multiple jobs leaving little time for healthy living of any kind. High stress pushing people towards comfort foods. Food deserts.

Being poor feels bad. Eating junk food feels good. If you’re well-off then you have the means to find othee (less unhealthy) ways to feel good.

Eating junk doesn't feel good at all if your focus extends beyond the present moment To be well off you generally must have a fairly long term view of things & the ability to aim well into the future Poverty & obesity are generally caused by the same underlying self indulgence
