Lately people have been telling me gender identity is a thing you feel - that you can 'feel like a woman', for example. But I legit don't understand what that means. Does feeling like a woman mean you want to wear women's clothes? Or have a vagina? Or get sexually pursued?

So if a woman wakes up as a man and wants to be a woman again, there's concrete things that she would change. She would wear woman's clothes, do makeup, maybe surgery. Does that mean a woman = clothes/makeup/feminine features?

Cis man here but it might be like asking “what makes you feel confident?” For one person maybe reading enough or getting to the gym or society affirming their choices and value. I imagine that the feeling of gender is a combination of personal signifiers and social acceptance

I think the answer is in part that the feeling translates to being "perceived" as a woman. Many things we "want" for ourselves are really about how other's perceive us.
