Dude the online trans crowd is the most uncharitable, cruel group I've ever encountered. Had to block a hundred people calling me a piece of shit this morning.

What you said was equivalent to telling a black/jewish/roma person that you view them as sub-humans, but you will continue referring to them as equal humans out of politeness. You might not see this, you might not agree, but that is what your words convey.

But I legitimately don't view them as subhuman

I get that. But you saying that you view them as their birth sex is the equivalent of that statement for a trans person: that IS how many trans people feel about that statement. If you can understand that, you might be able to understand why people reacted as they did.

Would it work if I were much clearer then? Like I don't want them to misinterpret me as thinking they're subhuman, so I'm super careful and clear about how I communicate my thoughts?

It depends.. If you insist on using a view and framework that denies trans ppl's gender identity you will get the same response, because that is still calling us subhuman. 1/2

But I'm actually not viewing you as subhuman. If you think my framework means you're subhuman then you're extremely misunderstanding my framework

Your framework is literally: I don't believe trans people are fully realized humans like myself but because I don't want to be accused of a faux pas, I'll treat trans people like I would treat other fully realized people.

no that is not literally my framework. If you'd prefer that to be my framework so you can have an easier time making fun of it then go ahead, but then neither of us should be under the illusion that you're actually communicating to me about what I think.
