The problem is the cluster thing of gender that my brain seems to operate by isn't easily defined by one criteria. I have successfully viewed people female before when they have male genitalia, given the rest of them adheres closely to the cluster of feminine traits.

And for trans people who successfully pass, even if I learn they're trans or any other 'facts' about them that might contradict their appearance, my brain still considers them the gender they're passing as.

Yeah, I agree that the way my brain processes gender is not like... forgiving. Most trans people don't have the ability to pass, espec. if they transitioned late or don't have money. I agree it can be extraordinarily painful to not look like the thing you want to.

I acknowledge that my instinctive processing of trans people as their birth gender is probably really painful to them. I feel empathy for this and if I could press a button to change my brain to process them as the gender they want, then I would do that.

I’m pretty surprised to hear you say you’d change it if you could! I think you could probably change a lot if you tried, even though you seem confident that you couldn’t.

I don’t claim to understand your reasons for talking about gender stuff on the internet (though of course I have guesses based on what you’ve said!) But it stands out to me that the “I would change it if I could” point is buried here instead of something you said earlier.
