I only get the "you're demanding free labor" argument when I try to ask questions of very left-leaning communities. Right-leaning communities are super happy to tell me everything for free. Left wing communities tell me I'm exploiting them when i post a link to my surveys.

I think they have a really different view of exploitation than I (and you) do. Usually they have a big theory framework of stuff like marginalization that goes into that word.

True! There are also two definitions, the first is more along the lines of “taking advantage” but the second is just a technical term for “utilizing or benefiting from resources” which to me in itself is neither positive or negative but I can see how it could be seen negatively
