Re: COVID-19 “Idk why it’s relevant” There is no such thing as social science research devoid of context in its surrounding cultural climate. And to insist otherwise is extremely tone deaf, especially during a once in a lifetime pandemic.

If your study population at hand is going through an unprecedented extremely dire plight while you decide to spend energy for your benefit at the hands of this population then it’s unethical flat out.

This isn’t about what is “good for (me)”. I don’t give a fuck about myself and what benefits me alone. I care about ensuring that research is ethical in marginalised populations. I care about community outreach and feedback.

I care about acknowledging a long fraught history this community has had to face in regards to research. I care about what is moral and right. Sex work research (hell, any research involving marginalised populations) extends well beyond informed consent.

The fact that you are comparing sex work research participation with the general population further proves my point of your disregard for ethics.

The fact that you are not intimately familiar with this history, the power structures, and already existing critiques further demonstrates that you are not equipped to handle this kind of sensitive research in an ethical manner.

Yeah, I think you come from a type of lens on the world that I don't share at all. Which is fine - you do research in the way you'd like to, and I'll do it in the way I want to! I disagree with almost all of your premises, which makes sense why we have such different approaches.

I’ll do research the ethical way — you go ahead and continue being unethical 🙃🙃🙃

Brilliant. So we’ve established (together and publicly!) to everyone looking at this thread — sex worker or not — that you’re an unethical researcher. My work here is done 😎

For a long time I've loudly said I'm a moral nihilist; this isn't news to anybody.
